for higher study. The campus foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Shri
P.V. Narasimha Rao on 21st January 1994. The institute, being a central

How to reach Assam University Silchar
Silchar
is a popular town which is well connected with other major cities by bus, train,
and flight. From any place in India, you can visit the city easily.

Silchar to Assam University (AUS)
From
any place in Silchar, you have to go to the National Highway point; from that
place, you will find some travellers (mini buses) and electric autos to reach
the institute. The institute is on Hailakandi Road via the medical college, and
it is situated in a place about 20 km south of the city place.
For Agartala students, you first reach Silchar by train or bus, then you can visit the institute the same way.
Direction: Railway
station → National Highway point (medical road) → University.
From
the railway station, you will find an auto rickshaw to reach the National Highway
point, and the fare will be 30 rupees, and then from that point, you will find a
petrol auto or electric auto to visit
the university, and the fare will be
50 rupees, and the time taken will be 40 to 50 minutes. If you have big luggage,
you can reserve an auto rickshaw, and the fare will be 500 rupees from the
railway station.
From Guwahati or another state of India, you first reach Silchor, then take the same way to reach the institute. From Guwahati, you will get a direct night super to reach AUS.
From ISBT, there are two ways to visit the educational institute. One is via town, and the other way is via bypass. The best way is via bypass to reach the destination. You will find electric auto rickshaws to go to the point of Medical Road (near Saint Capitanio School), and the fare will be Rs.40 to Rs.50. From this point, you can get an auto rickshaw to visit the AUS, and the fare will be almost 50 rupees. You can reserve an auto rickshaw also, and the fare will be Rs.400 to 500.
Which is the nearest airport to Silchar
The
nearest airport in Silchar is located at Kumbhirgram and is 17 km away from the
town. If your destination is AUS, then you first reach Silchar town by bus or
car, and then the same way, visit the place mentioned above. You will find buses
from the airport to the city, and the fare will be near about Rs.50. You can
also book an auto rickshaw, car, or taxi to visit the city. By sharing a car,
your fare will be Rs.300 to Rs.400. You have no direct travel option; you have to
go to the city first and then the institute. The distance from the airport
to the varsity is around 45 km.

located at Dargakona village, but the nearest best market is Irongmara. At
Irongmara you will find lots of rented rooms and also lots of PGs. Some hostels
already have in AUS for students.
