Dudhsagar Waterfall is located on the border of Karnataka and Goa states.
The waterfall is around 60 km away from Panaji, the capital of Goa. The
waterfall is situated at about 310 m (1020 feet) in height, and the average
width is 30 meters (100 feet); that makes it India’s 4th tallest
waterfall.
How to reach
Dudhsagar Falls, Goa
Kulem is the main gateway of the tourist spot.
From any of the places, like North Goa or South Goa, you have to come to Kulem
first. After that, Jeep service (official) is available to visit Dudhsagar Falls,
Goa. The distance from Kulem to the falls is around 10 km and is a mud
track, so it is difficult to visit in the rainy season.
Dudhsagar Waterfalls by train
You cannot
reach Dudhsagar Waterfall directly by train due to the remote area; first you
reach Madgaon, also called Margo or Margaon (same), from any city in India.
Madgaon station is a major junction on the southwestern railway. Margo is the 2nd largest
city in South Goa by population after Vasco-da-Gama.

Collem
(Kulem) is the nearest railway station to the spot. It is
near about 10 km away from Dudhsagar Waterfalls.
Another railway station, Madgaon Railway Station, is 46 km away from the
tourist place. Here I mention that actually Dudhsagar railway station is the
closest, about 1 km from Dudhsagar
waterfall campsite, but it is not an official stoppage; it was built in
case of emergency so the train can be stopped for a little while. From Panaji, the
capital of Goa, you first reach Margao station, and then you will find a train
to Kulem. In front of the Kulem entry office, you will find shared jeeps to
reach Dudhsagar waterfalls.
Madgaon to Kulem
You do
not find direct trains to reach Kulem Railway Station from the cities of
Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and other states. You first reach Madgaon station, known
as Margo or Vasco-da-Gama station in Goa. Further on, you will find a passenger
train to reach Collem from Madgaon railway station. Frequently, Madgaon to Kulem
passengers are very few, and the train runs on schedule. If you want to visit
by train, be sure to specify the train schedule before the journey. From
Madgaon, a passenger train (56962) starts its journey at 8:10 am, and another
train named Amaravati Express (18048) starts its journey at 7:00 am to Kulem. The
train journey will be 1 hour to reach the destination. The other option is by
bus or shared taxi to reach Kulem. You can also reserve a taxi to reach the
destination, and the fare will be Rs.2500 to Rs.3000.
Besides
this, you will find AC and non-AC bus services from other tourist spots, like
Baga Beach, Calangute Beach, Anjuna Beach, and Panaji, etc. The bus fare will
be around Rs.2500 to Rs.3000. The distance from Baga Beach to Madgaon is around
50 km.

Kulem to Dudhsagar Falls
From Kulem
or Mollem, you will find Jeeps and they are the only mode of transport to reach
the falls. After going to the Kulem government office, they will give you an entry
pass and arrange a shared jeep for you. You have to pay entry fees and Jeep
fare in the office. Entry fees will be around Rs.290 (including forest entry
fees), and shared jeep fare will be Rs.500 to Rs.650. There are 7 seated jeeps.
You can also reserve a jeep from the booking office, and the fare will be
around Rs.3500 to visit the falls.
Bangalore to Dudhsagar Falls by train
If you
want to reach the tourist place from Bangalore or any other city in south
Karnataka, you will find the weekly train Vasco Da Gama (17311) runs every
Friday from Yeshwantpur railway station to reach Kulem station and takes about
13 hours. The train fare will be Rs1600 to Rs3200 according to classes and
distance covered (439 km). You will find more trains to reach Margo from
Bangalore. The first train, Karwar Express (16515), which leaves the station at
7am, and then Vasco Express (17316) at 12 am, leave the Yeshwantpur railway
station and start their journey to reach Margo. Yeshwantpur railway station (YPR)
is one of the three important railway stations in the city of Bangalore,
located at Yeshwantpur. You will find other trains also from Bangalore.
Hyderabad to Dudhsagar Falls by train
The
train KCG YNK Express (17603) runs daily from Hyderabad railway station at 9:05
pm and takes 17 h and 15 min to reach Margo at 2:20 pm.
The
train JSME VSG EXP (17322) runs on a weekly basis (Tuesday) from Hyderabad
railway station at 6:10 pm and takes 19 h 15 min to reach Margo at 1:25 pm.

Waterfall Timing
June to September is the time to see the stunning view of Dudhsagar Falls; at that time the flow of water is most powerful,
and the falls will be expanded. But sometimes the access might be restricted by
the government due to heavy rain, and trails will be slippery. At that time,
the water flow is very high. You must avoid your trip in the months of June and
July. You can visit from October to November; the weather will
be pleasant and the road will be moderate. It is the perfect time to visit the
waterfall. If you want swimming experience, you can visit from December to
March. Tour entry time is 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Tourists are permitted 1 hour and
30 minutes to spend at the falls.
Note: Do not visit with high heels (girls); sports shoes are best. (Some
walking distance is fully uneven stone and a muddy tracking road with a small
wooden bridge.)
Entry
Pass Dudhsagar
You have to need an entry pass to visit the tourist spot. You have to find
a government office in Khulem for buying an entry pass. The fees you have to
pay are around Rs.290. You can register your name online also. For registration
visit: www.dudhsagar.gov.in. You must create an online entry pass. Documents
needed are any ID proof, like an Aadhar Card, for online registration, and fees
will be Rs.25. Because the office is often crowded with tourists. You will show
the message that you receive after online registration at the Kulem entry office.
They will give you an entry pass. Life jackets with you are also mandatory. You
will find life jackets there on rent at Rs.40. You have to pay forest entry
fees of Rs.100 per person. If you have a camera with you, you have
to pay fees for the camera (Rs.200).
