National Institute of Technology (NIT) is located at Fakirtilla Village in Silchar. The Institute is on Hailakandi Road, about 10 km away from town, in Assam. NIT is the 31st National Institute of Technology in India and was established in 1967 as Regional Engineering College (REC) in Assam. In the year 2002, the institute was upgraded to the National Institute of Technology. The campus area is around 625 acres and is a UGC- and AICTE-recognized institute.

How to Reach NIT by Train?
From any
other state, like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, or Kerala, first visit Silchar by train or
by air. After that you will go to the Engineering College, and it is 10 km away
from the town.
From
any place in town or National Highway point, you will find some auto rickshaws
or electric autos to reach the Engineering College. The institute is on Hailakandi
Road via Medical College.
From Delhi
or major cities in India, you have to visit Silchar town first by train or bus
or air, then you have to go to the institute. The train is the best way to
visit the National Institute. The distance from the railway station to the
destination is around 10 KM.
From Guwahati,
you first reach the city, and then the same way to reach the Institute. There
are a lot of trains that run daily from Guwahati to Silchar.
From
Agartala, there is a daily direct train to visit the destination, i.e., the
Agartala-Silchar Express. You will find some trains to Badarpur. From Badarpur,
you will find ASTC buses to reach ISBT, and then From ISBT, you will find autos

will find petrol autos or electric autos to visit the destinations, and the

have big luggage, you can reserve an auto also, and the fare will be 200 rupees
from the railway station. From ISBT, you can find direct auto through Bypass,
and the fare will be 70 to 80 rupees.

Silchar is located at Kumbhirgram and is 25 km away from town, and the
distance from the town to NIT is around 10 km. So, the airport to the institute
is around 35 KM away (south direction). There are direct flights available from
major cities in India like Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Guwahati, and also Imphal
town. Air India, SpiceJet, and Jet Airways operate flights daily from different
cities. The city is well connected to other parts of India by air, road, and rail.
