How to reach Assam University Silchar by Train
If you
want to go to Assam University by train, first you have to come to Silchar
Railway Station from other cities or states by train. The railway station is the
only and the nearest railway station. There is no direct train to visit the
institute. You have to go to AUS by road, and the distance from the railway
station to the institute is around 18 km.
Silchar
Silchar is
a town that stands on the bank of the Barak River in the Cachar district, in the
state of Assam, in the Northeast Region of India. It is the 2nd largest
city in terms of population, area, and GDP and is the headquarters of Barak
Valley. There are three important institutes, like Medical College, NIT, and
Assam University. The city is around 343 km southeast of Guwahati in
Assam. The city is well connected with the capital city Guwahati, by air,
rail, and also major road. You can easily reach the city from the rest of the other
states or from major cities in India.
Assam University
The Institute AUS is located at Dargakona, a green hilly institute on the road from Silchar to Hailakandi, about 20 km away from town. AUS campus has around 600 acres of land, and it started as a central university in 1994. Irongmara Bazar is 1 km away from the educational institute. The institute (AUS) is situated on the way from Silchar to Hailakandi Road via Medical College.
How to Reach University
Guwahati to Silchar
You
have several ways to reach Silchar from Guwahati, like by air, train, and bus also. The distance is around
343 km from Guwahati. If you want to journey by air, the nearest airport is
Silchar Airport (IXS), located at Kumbhirgram, 29 km away from town. If you
want to journey by train, several trains have to reach Silchar railway station.
Around 12 trains run daily from Guwahati; some trains run daily, and some run
weekly. The best option is by train. You can reach by road from Guwahati also.
Many night supers and day supers are available from Guwahati to Silchar ISBT,
and the average cost will be 500 to 700, depending on the bus, like an AC or
non-AC bus. The time will be taken in 12 hours. Guwahati to AUS direct bus
services are available, but the journey will be a little bit and the fare will
be around Rs.500 to Rs.600. The bus journey is around 14 hours.
Silchar to Assam University
The distance
is around 18 km from Silchar. From any place in town, you have to reach the National
Highway point (Medical Road). At the National Highway point, you will get an auto
or a bus to visit AUS or the nearest place, Irongmara. The university is located
at Irongmara. The best option is by auto, like an electric auto, for the journey,
and the fare will be Rs.50 per person and take around 1 hour. To reach the
destination, on the way you will find the medical college and NIT and then the university.
National Highway is a point (on the medical road) in town, where auto will be
available to go to AUS or Irongmara.
Airport To Silchar
Silchar
Airport is located at Kumbirgram, about 29 km
away from town. From the airport you will get shared taxis or buses to reach
the city. You can also reserve a taxi or hire an Ola to reach the city, and the
reserve price will be around Rs.900 to 1000. Auto services will be available
from the airport.
Airport to University
Airport to AUS distance near about 45 km. There are not available direct bus. You may get a shared taxi from the airport to Silchar City or sometimes get the airport to the university. Railway Station to Assam University
If your journey is by train, you must
first come to the Silchar railway station. From the railway station
you will get an electric auto to reach the National Highway point (medical
road); the fare will be Rs.30 to 40 per person, and then in the same place you will
find an auto or bus to visit AUS. You can also reserve an auto or taxi to reach
the destination from the
railway station; for a taxi, the reserve price will be 800 to 1000,
and for an auto, the reserve price will be around 500.
The distance
from ISBT to the university is 20 km. There are two ways to reach the place.
One is to reserve an electric auto around 400 to 500 to visit the university.
If you do not want to reserve, you first reach NIT point or medical gate (university
road) via bypass, and then at that place, you will find autos (coming from the city)
available to visit the university, and the fare will be 40 to 50 rupees. There
is no direct bus. You can
also visit the destinations via town, but it will be quite a little bit due to
traffic in town. To avoid traffic jams, the
best road is via bypass.
Kolkata to Assam University by Train
There are several trains available to
come to Silchar from Kolkata. If you haven’t got a train ticket for Silchar,
however, you can also book tickets for Badarpur or Hailakandi. Badarpur and
Hailakandi town are not the nearest places, but they are the second option.
From Badarpur, many travelers and ASTC
buses are available to come to ISBT, Silchar. Then, your journey from ISBT to the
university, I already mentioned the above paragraph.
From Hailakandi, many travelers are available to go to university. The distance is about 31 km, and taking time around 1 hour and 20 minutes. Here, it is mentioned that very few vehicles are available from Hailakandi in the afternoon (after 4:00 PM). You will need to make a reservation at that time. You have to pay Rs.600 for an auto reservation.

Kanchanjunga (13175), departs at 6:50 AM every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from Sealdah Station. The train arrives at the destination at 2:30 PM (next day); the journey time will be 31 hours and 40 minutes.
Koaa
Sch Spl (05640), departs at 1:15 PM from Chitpur station; arrival
time is 11:50 PM (at night); journey duration is 34 hours and 35 minutes; and
it runs every Friday.
You can take another train journey. That is the Sairang Express.
Sairang
Express (13125) runs from Kolkata to Mizoram and departs
at 12:25 PM from KOAA Station, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
Note: If your journey is on the Sairang Express, you have to get off the train at Badarpur Junction or Hailakandi Station. The train arrives at Badarpur Junction at 3:35 PM and Hailakandi station at 4:50 PM (next day). It would be best to choose Badarpur Station, as there are very few vehicles from Hailakandi in the afternoon. (How to visit AUS from Badarpur- see above).
