According to scriptures, the Rakhi festival should not be celebrated during Bhadra Kal. That time, it is considered inauspicious to tie Rakhi in a traditional ceremony. So, we must avoid the time and celebrate after Bhadrakal. Bhadra Kal means the inauspicious time start on 8th August (daytime) at 2:12 pm to 9thAugust 1:52 pm. So, the best time to tie rakhi will be 9th August 2025, Saturday.

History of Raksha Bandhan
Raksha Bandhan is explained in many
ways in many mythology books. The story goes, according to mythology, when Lord
Krishna fought to kill Shishupal after he committed 100 crimes, then Krishna’s
index finger was cut and started bleeding. Draupadi pulled apart a piece of her sharee and tied Krishna’s finger to
stop bleeding. Then Lord Krishna promised to protect Draupadi. In the meeting
of Dhritarashtra, when Draupadi was stripped of her clothes by the Pandavas, Krishna protected Draupadi’s
honour as promised. It is believed that the festival has been celebrated
since then.
How to celebrate Raksha Bandhan
Preparation for Festival
According to scriptures, everyone has to take a bath for every good
deed. If possible, all wear new clothes and must avoid black clothes after
completing the puja, and arrange the puja thali with white sandal, Deepak,
rice, roli (Abir) sweets, and Rakhi for tying brother’s hand. Clean the area
where the ceremony will take place. Follow the auspicious time.
How to Ceremony
At first, Brother has to sit
facing east, and then Sister puts an arranged thali in front of Brother to
symbolize passivity, and then tilak has to be applied on the forehead, and also
roli and rice. After that, the sister ties rakhi on the brother’s right wrist. The
ceremony will be completed step by step with circling a diya around the brother’s
face, praying for wellbeing, longlife, and health, feeding sweets and
exchanging gifts and love and appreciation. The festival makes the relationship
between two siblings and also two families deepen.
