Mechuka is a very beautiful offbeat tourist destination, and it is located in a remote area. It is a big challenge to reach Mechuka Valley in Arunachal Pradesh. Internet service is not yet good due to the remote location. So, there is no direct train, bus, or flight to reach Mechukha. First, you need to choose a city that is well connected to the rest of the country. These are Dibrugarh, Itanagar, and Guwahati, and all of these are well connected by road, rail, and also air. You will get flight, train, and bus services to reach these cities from different parts of the country.

How to Visit Mechuka by Bus

If you want to explore the valley by road, you will first come to Itanagar or Dibrugarh by bus. You can also try to reach Dibrugarh, and it will be easy to explore Mechukha. The places Dibrugarh and Aalo are well connected by road to other major cities in India. The distance between the two places is about 250 km and takes 6 to 7 hours, and the fare will be around 900 per person. Several buses are available to reach Aalo from Itanagar or Dibrugarh. You will also find a shared taxi to reach Aalo. If direct buses are not available to reach Aalo, then you can reach Pasighat and then Pasighat to Aalo.

The other nearest town is Aalo, which is on the way from Dibrugarh to Mechukha. There will be only sumo services on the road. Some shared taxis and sumos run daily on the route from Aalo to Mechukha and from Mechukha to Aalo. The shared taxi fare will be Rs.600 to Rs.700 (one way). You can hire a sumo or jeep to explore the tourist destinations for Rs.5000 to Rs.6000 per day.

How to Reach Mechuka by Train

The nearest railway station is Murkongselek Railway Station (MZS). The station is located in Jonai, Assam, which is only 135 to 150 km away from Mechukha. You can visit the valley via Aalo or Pasighat from Murkongselek Station by road.

Aalo is a perfect place where you can stay. Several hotels and homestays are available in Aalo. After a night stay in Aalo, you can reach the tourist place by taxi after a 7 to 8 hour journey. You can stay in Dibrugarh also; hotels are available in the city.

Dibrugarh Railway Station is also a well-connected railway station with other major cities in India. If you are in the rest of Arunachal Pradesh, you can first visit Itanagar or Dibrugarh by train, for which tickets are available. Try to reach Dibrughar instead of Itanagar due to it being closer than Itanagar. From these two places, lots of buses are available to reach Aalo and then the tourist place by taxi or sumo service.

How to Reach Mechuka by Flight

If you want to travel by air, you first visit Guwahati or Dibrugarh or Itanagar. But Dibrugarh is much closer than Guwahati and Itanagar. From the town, in the morning, you will find lots of buses and taxis to reach Aalo and then travel to Mechukha by taxi.

You can reach Dibrugarh from Kolkata by flight. Several flights run daily from Kolkata, and flight fare will be around Rs.5000 to Rs.6000 (one way) and takes 5 to 6 hours (1 stop).

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is located in Guwahati, and it is well connected with other states of India and foreign countries. The distance between Kolkata and Guwahati is around 498 km. Lots of flights run daily between the two airports, and the flights’ average fare will be around Rs.5000 to Rs.7000 (one way).  A direct flight takes 2 h 45 min, and a connecting flight may take 5 to 6 hours. From Guwahati, you will reach Dibrugarh by flight or train or bus and then Aalo and then the destination by taxi.

Kolkata to Mechuka Train

There is no direct train from Kolkata to Mechuka. If you want to visit by train from Kolkata, a popular train, Kamrup Express (15959), departs Howrah Station at 6:35 pm and arrives in Dibrugarh (DBRG) at 5:55 am (2nd day). The Express runs every Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from Howrah Station to DBRG Station and takes 33 h 35 min to cover the distance of 1352 km.

Another train, the Kolkata – Dibrugarh Express (12525), departs weekly (Wednesday) from Kolkata (KOAA) station at 9:40 pm, reaching DBRG at 10:30 pm the next day, and takes 25 to 27 hours. The express passes through Guwahati Station at 3:55 pm. The DBRG station will be the nearest and well-connected town to visit Mechukha.

 

Delhi to Mechuka Train

There is no direct train or flight from Delhi to Mechuka. You have to reach Dibrugarh or Naharlagun first by train or flight. The Arunachal Express (22412) departs from Anand Vihar (ANVT) station to Naharlagun (NHLN) every Sunday and Thursday and takes around 38 hours. From Naharlagun, the road trip will be around 7 to 8 hours to visit Mechukha.

The New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (12424) departs daily from New Delhi station (NDLS) at 4:20 pm and arrives at DBRG at 6:05 am (3rd day), taking around 37 h 45 min. Then you have to visit Mechukha by road from the city.

 

Guwahati to Mechuka

The distance from Guwahati to Mechuka is around 777 km. There are no direct bus services from Guwahati to Mechukha. You can reach Dibrugorh from Guwahati easily by bus and train also. Several buses, like Volvo buses, super buses, and night super buses (AC / non-AC), give their services between the two places. Stay in Dibrugarhcity, and then travel by road to the destination.

Dibrugarh to Mechuka

The distance from Dibrugarh to Mechuka is around 370 km. On the way, you have to cross the famous bridge Bogibeel and then the place Pasighat and then Aalo, which is 185 km to Mechukha. There are several buses, and taxis are available to reach Aalo. But from Aalo, you will find some shared taxis and sumos to visit the tourist destination, and the journey takes around 7 hours.

Since you have to cover a long distance from Dibrugorh to Mechuka, you can stay at Aalo. Several hotels and homestays are available in Along or Aalo. The next morning, you can start your journey to Mechukha by shared taxi or sumo. Bus services are not available on the route. The shared taxi fare will be around Rs.700 to Rs.900 per person, and the services usually depart early in the morning from the Aalo sumo stand. (It is recommended to book tickets in advance and make an ILP to visit Arunachal.)

So, you first reach these places from your hometown by bus, train, or flight and then visit the destination. For international tourists, Guwahati is considered as the best primary destination to visit Mechuka. Guwahati International Airport is well-connected with other major cities and other foreign countries as well. From Guwahati, you can visit Mechuka via Dibrugarh by bus or train.
