It is the most important landmark in Arunachal. Inside the monastery, you will find a beautiful statue of Lord Buddha, which is 28 feet tall. Here you will see a house of butter lamps; you can enter the house and light a butter lamp here. Bumla Pass

Bumla Pass is a popular destination in Arunachal Pradesh. Tawang War Memorial

The Tawang War Memorial is one of the most iconic attractions, a famous and historically significant place in India. The historical hall is dedicated to the 2420 Indian soldiers who died in the China-India war in the year 1962. The memorial is located in the Tawang district and offers a deeply emotional and patriotic experience. Every evening, in the memorial, a light and sound show is held and highlights the history of the Indo-China War and the history of Tawang and how it became a part of India. There is a museum inside the memorial that showcases lots of army weapons, tanks, and rifles used in the war.

Madhuri Lake Tawang

The Sungester Lake, which is also known as Madhuri Lake, is a popular lake surrounded by mountains that offers picturesque scenery, crystal-clear water, and a truly mesmerizing view. The lake is located in the Tawang district, on the way from Tawang to Bum La Pass. The lake is popularly known as Madhuri Lake after the Bollywood film “Koyla” shooting, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. In 1950, the Sungester Lake was formed by a flash flood after an earthquake. Madhuri Lake is situated 30 km north-east of the tourist destinations.

 

How to Visit Tawang

If you want to visit Tawang tourist places in Arunachal Pradesh, you will first reach Tezpur or Guwahati in Assam by flight, train, or bus from your city. You will try to reach Tezpur instead of Guwahati. Tezpur is closer than Guwahati. But Guwahati is well connected with other major cities in India. From anywhere in India, you can get bus, train, or flight to Guwahati.

Road Map: Guwahati–Tezpur–Bomdila–Sela Pass–Tawang

By Train: There are no direct trains to visit the destinations; you have to visit Guwahati or Tezpur first. Rangapara Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Tawang, and the station is around 30 km away from Tezpur main town. The station is located in Tezpur, Assam, only 314 km away from the Tawang tourist places. From the major cities in India, like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Kolkata, you will get train and flight services to Guwahati.

If you want to visit the tourist place from Kolkata, several trains run daily from Kolkata to Guwahati. A luxury train, the Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express (27575), departs at 6:20 PM from Howrah Junction and will reach Guwahati at 8:20 AM, taking around 14 hours; the ticket price will be around Rs.2400 to Rs.3900. Another train, Saraighat Express (12345), runs daily from Howrah station at 4:05 PM and reaches Guwahati at 9:40 AM, taking 17 h 35 min; ticket prices range from Rs.568 to Rs.3356. Besides this, lots of trains, like Kamrup Express, Kanchanjunga Express, Kolkata Garib Rath Express, Kamakhya Express, Sairang Express etc., run on the route.

By Flight: Guwahati is the gateway of the Northeast. If you want to visit any place of north east, you have to reach Guwahati first. Tezpur Airport is the nearest airport to Tawang, located in Assam state. It is a domestic airport. Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport (LGBIA) is another major airport, and it is an international airport located in Guwahati, state of Assam. From Guwahati ISBT, you will find direct super buses to reach Tawang. Assam Government (ASTC) bus services are available from Guwahati to Tezpur.

Another convenient way is by helicopter. You will find Skyone Airways helicopter services from Guwahati Airport to Tawang. The price will be around Rs.4000 (one way) and takes around 1 hour.

Guwahati to Tawang by Road

Guwahati to Tawang distance is around 490 km. You will find buses from Guwahati ISBT to Tawang, with direct bus services (day super) from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM and night super from 3:30 PM to 6 PM. The bus journey will be around 17 to 20 hours. The bus fare will be around Rs.1200 to Rs.1500. There are three direct buses that run daily, like Yeshi Travels at 10:30 AM, Network Travels at 11:00 AM, and zainab Travels (under ASTC) at 11:30 AM, available from Guwahati to Tawang or Guwahati to Tezpur. Best Time to Visit Tawang

The best time to visit Tawang is from March to June, and another special time will be September and October; the weather will be pleasant and not so cool.

Winter season is the best for snow lovers. The months, November to March are the perfect time for experiencing heavy snowfall and snow-caped mountains, which are so attractive for tourists. But, due to heavy snow, you won’t be able to visit all the tourist places of Tawang. ILP Arunachal Pradesh

An Inner Line Permit (ILP) is also important for tourists (Indians) before visiting Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, and a Protected Area Permit (PAP) is needed for foreigners. ILP cost will be Rs.300 per person (for 1day to 3 days) and Rs.500 per person (for 3 days to 14 days). Children up to 14 years old don’t need an ILP. You can get an ILP online from the official website: www.ilparunachal.gov.in  or from the Arunachal entry gate (offline). There are an ILP office situated in Guwahati and also Tezpur. But, on Sunday and Saturday, the office may be closed. So, you will apply for ILP online and get ILP around 12 to 24 hours later and print it.
